Our Commitment to Gender Integration and Women’s Empowerment
We are dedicated to integrating gender perspectives and promoting women’s empowerment across all of our projects. Our aim is to incorporate a gender lens into our work, ultimately striving for global equality between women and men. Here are 15 instances where this commitment has been realized:
- Developed and launched the Women’s Leadership in Small and Medium Enterprises (WLSME) Website and knowledge portal for USAID. This platform captures new gender and enterprise development insights, disseminates them among development practitioners, and fosters collaboration among stakeholders worldwide. - Collaborated with USAID/Turkmenistan to create a Tourism and Gender Training component for the Turkmenistan Tourism Seminar. The session addressed topics such as gender’s link to economic development and tourism, gender wage gaps, and women’s roles in the tourism industry.
- Enhanced USAID’s Bureau for Food Security (BFS) Agriculture Core Course curriculum by integrating gender as one of three overarching themes. Developed a session on integrating gender into agriculture to help participants grasp the significance of gender in food security and agriculture programs.
- Contributed to the development of Tips for Integrating Gender into Agriculture Sector Solicitations, a guide to assist USAID agriculture officers in incorporating gender considerations into solicitations and technical evaluations.
- Finalized the Initiative to End Hunger in Africa (IEHA) Gender Assessment Synthesis Report for USAID. This report captured best practices, lessons learned, and evidence-based recommendations for optimizing future agricultural investments.
- Provided instructional design and logistical support for USAID’s Economic Growth Office Advanced Topics course, including a session on Gender Economic Analysis & Employability of Women.
- Created a series of electronic gender training modules (Gender 101, 102, and 103) for the Office of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GenDev), hosted on USAID University online.
- Conducted the USAID/Iraq Gender Assessment under the Performance Evaluation and Reporting for Results Management (PERFORM) project. This analysis examined gender integration in various programs and provided recommendations to enhance gender integration.
- Co-authored Effective Gender Integration Practices for Agriculture, a six-part series assisting Mission staff in embedding gender considerations into agriculture programs.
- Developed a 2-day Gender Integration in Political Transitions and Post-Conflict Programming training for USAID/OTI, focusing on concrete examples and actionable practices.
- Conducted a Gender Analysis of the Côte d’Ivoire PEPFAR Program, studying gender norms’ impact on HIV transmission and access to services.
- Undertook a USAID/Afghanistan Midwife Retention Study, evaluating the retention of midwives in health facilities and assessing USAID support.
- Facilitated a Family Planning Project Design in collaboration with the USAID/Jordan Population and Family Health team.
- Prepared a Gender Analysis and Assessment for USAID/Jordan, informing development assistance programming in various sectors.
- Conducted a Gender Analysis Assignment in Nigeria, supporting gender-responsive program design in the HIV response.
