Ahmed Gabr is the most senior technical staff working on Q2 Impact’s Services to Improve Performance Management, Enhance Learning and Evaluation (SIMPLE) project. He joined the project at its start in 2016 and has been crucial to its success ever since. In 2017 he managed a groundbreaking needs assessment for students with disabilities – just one of many assessments and evaluations that informed better programming at the USAID Mission in Egypt. His other notable achievements include leading a complex evaluation in the agriculture sector implemented during the COVID-19 global health emergency; conducting trainings designed to build USAID implementing partners’ capacity to monitor, evaluate, and learn from their activities; and providing generous mentorship of colleagues throughout his tenure on SIMPLE.
Ahmed’s commitment to collaboration is clear when he speaks about his team: “Working at SIMPLE is like being a part of a smart production machine full of opportunities and challenges and colored with human professionalism. ‘Team’ is the ignition key of this machine. The machine parts are each of our diverse expertise, cultures, personalities, interests, workstyle, color, sex, religion, etc. – but they all merge into one channel, combining forces to get the job well done. The machine has certainly evolved to work like a family, sincerely support one another, professionally and ethically overcome obstacles and carry out individual tasks to contribute to the larger success of SIMPLE. With “SIMPLE spirit”, we have certainly created opportunities out of plentiful challenges along our 6-year path supporting the Mission. I genuinely believe that we’re now making change by establishing a reliable Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) platform that will continue to effectively, efficiently and smoothly fulfil the needs and meet the expectations of the USAID Mission in Egypt. I am happy and proud to be part of SIMPLE.”
Prior to joining SIMPLE, Ahmed began his career in engineering at the Egyptian Air force where he moved into training. He is a professional teacher of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL). After retiring from the Air Force, Ahmed consulted for, joined and/or led several development-focused activities with a particular emphasis on education, a sector close to his heart, and M&E. He holds a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from the prestigious American University in Cairo and several diplomas and certificates in M&E and statistics.
