The Knowledge-Driven Microenterprise Development (KDMD) Project was a knowledge management project under the former USAID Microenterprise Development office (now E3/MPEP/MD) designed to help international development practitioners learn, coordinate, and distribute foreign assistance more effectively. KDMD played a major role in promoting knowledge management and learning at USAID and in the broader international development community.
KDMD revolutionized the way development practitioners connect with each other, significantly influencing how knowledge management is understood across USAID. This project demonstrated that “knowledge management” is a technical field unto itself. As a result, now more than ever, USAID programs are being designed with a KM component to maximize learning and ultimately, to achieve better development outcomes.
Over the course of five years, KDMD hosted 146 seminars reaching more than 15,700 participants and developed 37 adult learning courses that trained 935 USAID staff and partners. The team collaborated with and supported more than 13 offices and bureaus. KDMD was implemented by Q2 Impact in partnership with subcontractors IRG/Engility, Training Resources Group (TRG), GLS, and Zaloni.
